First impressions
I began this sample illumination study with a border rather than a central image. Repetition was the subject: a leaf, a pause, another leaf. I wanted the eye to move around the page without being pushed toward a single point.
Notes from the process
Tezhip is a skilled tradition with its own histories and disciplines. This entry is a contemporary digital exercise inspired by patient ornament, not a claim of traditional mastery. The gold-coloured lines in the placeholder are digital colour, not real gold leaf.
The next page
The next study will use a smaller motif repeated at two scales. Before adding colour I would like to check the rhythm in pencil alone. A border should support the page it surrounds, leaving the words enough room to breathe.
