First impressions

Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own made me think about the practical conditions around a sentence: the time available, the door that can close, the money that pays for quiet. These notes are an invented example of a reading response, written without quotations from the book.

Notes from the process

The movement from a particular scene to a larger argument is what I want to study on a second reading. The essay thinks through walking, visiting, eating, and imagining. Its everyday surfaces carry questions about whose creative work has been allowed to survive.

The next page

I would pair this reading with a personal inventory: what makes work possible in my own room? A clear table is one answer, but protected time is another. The book leaves the notebook open rather than providing a tidy final instruction.
