Little Bunny Bambam wandered around the neighborhood with no particular destination. None of her friends were around because they had all gone on holiday with their families. Every road she walked seemed quiet and empty.
She felt exhausted and sad. She imagined all of her friends having fun with their families. Maybe some had gone to the beach, building sandcastles by the shore. Others might be camping in nature, exploring new adventures. Some could be visiting their grandparents, enjoying warm family gatherings and delicious food.
Bambam sighed and shook her head.
“Why couldn’t we go anywhere?” she wondered. She wanted to do something fun. But because of her baby brother, her parents had decided to stay home. Her little brother was only ten days old, and her mother needed time to rest and recover.
“I really wish I could go to the beach,” Bambam whispered.
She closed her eyes and imagined herself standing by the ocean. She felt the cool sea breeze against her face. In her imagination, dolphins danced happily in the waves. She collected beautiful seashells to make herself a necklace. The warm sand tickled her feet as she walked along the shore. Around her, everyone looked peaceful and happy as they relaxed under the sunshine.
Suddenly, the loud sound of a car horn from the next street made her open her eyes.
She was back in reality.
She wasn’t at the beach. She wasn’t going anywhere.
For a moment, she felt as if her whole holiday had been ruined because of the tiny new baby. Her heart became heavy once again.
As Bambam continued walking, she noticed Mrs. Spider Tintin, one of her mother’s best friends. Mrs. Tintin was busily crocheting colorful yarn into toys. Her crochet hook moved gracefully up and down while the green yarn danced through her fingers.
Bambam was fascinated.
She walked closer and asked shyly, “Mrs. Tintin, what are you making? It looks so much fun, and the colorful yarn caught my attention.”
Mrs. Tintin smiled warmly.
“I am making amigurumi toys,” she replied. “These little toys are for people whose hearts need comfort during difficult times.”
Bambam’s eyes lit up with curiosity.
“What kinds of difficult times?” she asked.
Mrs. Tintin answered gently, “When someone feels lonely, sad, or sick, these toys remind them that they are loved. They become little comfort buddies that give warm hugs whenever they are needed.”
Bambam looked down and quietly said, “I feel lonely… and because of that, I feel sad.”
Mrs. Tintin looked deeply into Bambam’s eyes. It seemed as though she could understand exactly how Bambam was feeling.
Without saying another word, Mrs. Tintin picked up a small green crocheted frog and handed it to Bambam.
“Whenever you feel lonely or sad,” she said softly, “hug this little frog. It will be your comfort buddy.”
Bambam’s eyes grew wide with surprise and excitement. She had never expected such a thoughtful gift.
“Thank you so much!” she said happily, hugging the little frog tightly.
Mrs. Tintin then asked, “Would you like to tell me why you feel lonely and sad? If you want to share your feelings, I’m here to listen.”
Bambam felt relieved that someone cared enough to ask.
She explained how all her friends had gone on holiday while her family had stayed home because of her newborn baby brother. She admitted that she had been upset because they couldn’t travel.
Mrs. Tintin smiled kindly.
“These difficult days won’t last forever,” she said. “Your baby brother will grow a little every day. Next year, your family may be able to go on holiday together. But right now, your mother needs to recover, and your baby brother is still too little to travel.”
Bambam thought carefully.
“You’re right,” she said. “My mom does need time to rest, and my brother is too tiny for a holiday.”
Mrs. Tintin nodded.
“But that doesn’t mean your holiday has to be wasted,” she continued. “You can still use your time wisely. If you’d like, I can teach you how to crochet. One day, you can make amigurumi toys that bring comfort to other people. Crocheting is relaxing. It calms both your mind and your heart.”
Bambam had never tried crocheting before. The idea excited her.
She smiled brightly.
“I would love to learn!”
The thought of making comfort toys for people who felt lonely touched her heart. She wanted others to experience the same warmth and comfort she had just received.
Mrs. Tintin had made Bambam’s day.
Perhaps one day, Bambam would make someone else’s day too.
Her heart filled with warm, cozy feelings.
Before they said goodbye, Mrs. Tintin gave Bambam one final piece of advice.
“Sometimes life doesn’t go the way we hope,” she said. “But even then, there is always something we can do. We should choose the best option that fits our situation. You wanted to go on holiday, and that’s understandable. After working hard at school, you deserved a break. But because you have a new baby brother, your family couldn’t travel this year.
“Instead of staying sad, you found a new way to enjoy your holiday. You chose to learn something new.”
Mrs. Tintin congratulated Bambam on her decision.
They promised to meet again the next day to begin Bambam’s very first crochet lesson.
Bambam walked home feeling peaceful and happy.
She had learned that although life doesn’t always happen the way we wish, we can still find hope, discover new passions, and make the best of every situation.
